Las Cruces Room Rental

Travel nurse housing in Las Cruces, NM

Travel nurses placed at MountainView Regional, Memorial Medical Center, or Three Crosses Regional need housing that matches a 13-week contract. Furnished. All utilities. No long lease. Most listings on the major sites are 12-month apartment rentals that don't fit the timeline.

This is a private home in the Picacho Mountain area with two rental options that do fit. Both are furnished, both include all utilities, and the 90-day minimum maps cleanly to a standard 13-week travel assignment.

Private bedroom inside the main house — $1,200/month, queen bed (new Tempur-Pedic mattress for daysleepers), private bathroom, walk-in storage, shared kitchen and laundry. Best if you want a quiet place to land between shifts and don't mind sharing common space with a quiet, dog-friendly household.

Reduced-rent option on the bedroom: $1,000/month in exchange for an agreed household-help plan averaging ~5 hours/week (kitchen reset, dish cycle, light common-area tidy). Agreed in writing before move-in. Travel nurses on a stipend that runs lean can stretch the budget here.

Detached casita — $2,000/month, California King, private entrance, private bathroom. The casita has no separate kitchen — a hot plate and electric kettle are allowed inside; full kitchen and laundry are in the main house, ~30 feet away. Best if you want your own front door and the option to come and go without seeing anyone after a 12-hour shift.

What's included in both: electric, gas, water, trash, 1.2 Gbps Wi-Fi, central AC and heat, on-site parking. No add-on fees. A vehicle is required — there's no walkable transit between Picacho Mountain and the hospitals.

How housing stipends work here

Most travel agencies provide a tax-free housing stipend instead of arranging housing directly. We accept stipend payments two ways: the nurse pays rent monthly and submits receipts to the agency (most common), or the agency cuts a check directly to the landlord against a signed lease (less common, but workable; we'll provide the W-9 and a stipend-friendly invoice). Either way, the rent number is the rent number. No agency markup, no hidden fees, no third-party cleaning charges.

Shift-friendly details

Weekend background to know about

Two small standing hobby groups meet in the main house: board games Saturday 10 AM–4 PM and tabletop RPG Sunday 11 AM–4 PM. Audible from the bedroom unit on those afternoons. The casita is fully detached and unaffected.

Lease structure

90-day initial term (HOA policy for the subdivision), then month-to-month. This matches most travel contracts cleanly. If your contract extends, no new lease needs to be signed.

Application

Quick intro call, income or stipend documentation (a stipend letter from the agency works), background and credit check (run through Avail or RentSpree), references. The whole process is usually under a week.

Not a fit if

You need a pet (HOA prohibits pet rentals subdivision-wide), you smoke, you need overnight guests (not allowed — visiting partners and family stay at a hotel), you want a vacation-rental-style short stay under 90 days, or you don't have a vehicle.
